A guided Fort Mitchel tour is listed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Heritage Library Foundation Inc., 2 Corpus Christi Place, Suite 100, Hilton Head Island. The listing says the site contains remains of an 1862 coastal defense battery erected to protect Port Royal Sound by way of Skull Creek. Costumed characters and a tour guide cover the fort, General Mitchel and Mitchelville. Registration is required. Weekly Thursday tours are listed through Nov. 12.
